If you are interested or using crystals and stones regularly, then you’ll already know the importance of why they need to be cleaned, and its a good habit to develop.
Because they absorb emotions, and there’s sure to be some you’d rather not have hanging around you, as they may have an influence on your mood etc.
As negative energies can be stored they’ill affect the efficacy of your stones, so it’s good to know that just getting into a routine of cleansing will restore their strength and neutrality.
Cleaning For Healing
It’s especially important to clean Stones after using in the healing process, because just like people they weary and drain and need revitalizing. And just like us they respond well to a little TLC. If you leave it to your intuition you will know when to care for them and if you’re thinking about it, then its time.
Seawater
If you are lucky enough to live by the sea, as I do, then seawater is ideal, although the harshness of sea salt does require a rinsing afterwards. Other great sources are river, stream, white water spring, or regular tap water. The most important ingredient is setting the intention with loving care to cleanse and replenish.
Method
- Collect some water/seawater
- Place stones/crystals in a cloth or net
- Immerse in the seawater for 1-2 hrs
Important Notice
Not all crystals and stones are suited to a water cleansing, i.e. Selenite. If in doubt check with your crystal books for an individual stone/crystal or use a different method.
Alternative Methods
- Crystals/Stones can also be cleansed with a mixed solution of sea:tap water and left immersed overnight. Imagine any negative emotions being washed away as they soak.
- Some Crystals can be used to clean other crystals and stones. For example, Quartz, Citrine and Amethyst clusters
- Carnelian placed with other crystals can cleanse them
- Smudging with fire
- Air drying
The Simplest Way
Probably the easiest way is to leave your stones on the window-sill, for about 24-hrs, to absorb sunlight (female-yin energy) or moonlight (male-yang energy), the choice is yours, and equally powerful. You’ll soon get a feel for which is most pertinent at any given time.
There are a wide range of options and as you get into the stillness and quality of energy that crystals and stones imbue, so your exploration will deepen.
I find walking into Sheila’s Rainbow Crystals Shop (Folkestone Kent) is like stepping into a temple, it’s so still and peaceful. They’re certainly winning me over with the calming effect on their environment.
